Schäffer 3630: efficient yard loader with a powerful engine

Schäffer has added the 3630 yard loader to its 3000 series line up. The fuel-efficient machine is the first in the 3000 model range to be powered by the high-torque, 25hp engine from Kubota. With no need for an emission treatment system, the 3630 scores high in terms of fuel economy and delivers the highest torque in this power band, which is perfect for the advanced drive concept.

The 3630 is the entry-level machine in the Schäffer 3000 model line-up. Like all models in the range, the 2.3t machine has a typically spacious cab which offers a comfortable workspace for long and fatigue-free days. At 2.23m tall, it lifts the bucket and loads of more than 1.5 tonnes to a height of more than 2.88m. A 3.11m height is available as an option and comes with a larger front end.

Powering a 3000 series machine with the 18.5kW/25hp Kubota engine was a deliberate choice. “The Kubota D1703-M-Di is a veritable torque monster,” says marketing head Sebastian Bertelsmeier. “Sourcing a maximum 100Nm torque from 1,700cc and at 1,500 rpm, this engine definitely packs the punch to drive the 3000 models and yet economises on fuel and exhaust emissions and runs relatively quietly.”

Schäffer combined it with a high-pressure 510bar transmission which accelerates the machine to 20km/h thanks to the integrated powertrain. This Schäffer Power Transmission (SPT) is electronically controlled for boosted efficiency. SPT also provides for cruise control – a special boon when driving longer distances at a constant speed, such as in topping, mulching, bedding or sweeping jobs.

Another high-end yet standard feature on the 3630 is High Traction Force (HTF) which controls the thrust automatically, providing the maximum thrust even in travel range II thereby eliminating the need for downshifting and enabling faster cycle rates.

“By combining a high-torque engine with an electronic and high-pressure transmission, the 3630 generates a thrust of up to 1,600daN – an extraordinarily high rate in this power band,” explains Sebastian Bertelsmeier, summarising the advantages of this drive technology.
